Week 4 AFL MVP: WR L.J. Castile, New Orleans VooDoo
This week’s winner, chosen by the fans, comes out of New Orleans where L.J. Castile had a phenomenal game for the VooDoo in their first victory of 2014. Castile was the go-to-man in New Orleans’ 62-55 victory over the visiting Orlando Predators, catching 12 passes for 138 yards and 4 touchdowns. The 4th touchdown with 24 seconds left in the game to put the VooDoo in the lead for good. Castile is currently 3rd in the league with 10 receiving touchdowns, 3 behind league leader Reggie Gray (San Jose) and 1 behind Amarri Jackson (Tampa Bay).
KISS WR Donovan Morgan and Power WR Aaron Lesue were also nominated for Week 4 MVP.
Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Week: QB Erik Meyer, Spokane Shock
Last year’s Most Valuable Player for the 2013 season showed his worth in Spokane’s 73-62 victory over division rival San Jose. Meyer contributed a team record 4 rushing touchdowns in addition to his 4 passing touchdowns.
Riddell Defensive Player of the Week: MLB Beau Bell, Los Angeles KISS
For the second time this year, Beau Bell finds himself as Riddell Defensive Player of the Week. He won the award for 3 sacks in Week 1 vs San Antonio, setting the club record for most sacks in a game. He broke the record 3 weeks later with 4 vs Portland in a game in which the KISS defense had a total of 7 sacks. The game was a display of two expansion franchises going in two different directions; LA by acquiring star talent to win today while Portland is trying to develop all-star AFL talent with 16 rookies on the squad.
